May is Mental Health Awareness Month!
It is estimated that about half of all TGI people will have a mental health challenge in their lifetime. No matter what you’re feeling, you are worthy of love, fulfillment, and acceptance. Together we can fight the stigma against mental health!
Stigma is when someone, or even you yourself, views someone in a negative way just because they have a mental health condition. Some people describe stigma as a feeling of shame or judgment. Stigma can even come from an internal place, where we mix up feeling bad with being bad. Navigating life with mental health conditions can be tough, and the isolation, blame, shame, and secrecy that stigma can create can be challenging to get through.
By building a supportive community, being open and talking about mental illness, we can fight back against the stigma that our people so often feel. The TGI community is never alone, and help is available when you need it. The TransLatin@ Coalition’s Mental Health Program is here for you and is willing to help, no matter what your situation is.
To enroll in the TLC Mental Health Program, come to our office for an intake and let your case manager know that you are interested in the Mental Health Program.
