The TransLatin@ Coalition at the IRLA Local State of Emergency Declaration Press Conference

On October 14, The TransLatin@ Coalition proudly joined community leaders and advocates at the Immigrants Are LA (IRLA) Local State of Emergency Declaration Press Conference, held at the Kenneth Hall of Administration in Downtown Los Angeles. The event, hosted by Supervisors Lindsey Horvath (SD3) and Janice Hahn (SD4), highlighted the urgent need for coordinated County action in response to harmful federal immigration enforcement that continues to harm working-class and immigrant communities.
Our President and CEO, Bamby Salcedo, spoke alongside Aqui Soriano-Versoza of the Pilipino Worker Center, uplifting the voices of immigrant and transgender communities most impacted by these policies.
A Call for Protection and Equity
The proposed local emergency declaration represents a crucial opportunity to redirect County resources toward community safety, legal support, and rapid response infrastructure that protect immigrants and their families—regardless of status. It also opens the door for deeper collaboration between Los Angeles County and community-based organizations, ensuring that those most affected help shape long-term policy solutions.
Building Power Through Community
By declaring a local emergency, Los Angeles County would be better positioned to advocate for state resources, mobilize funding, and strengthen systems of care that address the root causes of harm from federal immigration crackdowns.
The TransLatin@ Coalition stands proudly with our IRLA partners in calling for safety, dignity, and justice for all immigrants. Together, we continue building a future where every community—especially transgender, gender-nonconforming, and intersex immigrants—can thrive free from fear and discrimination.
