Join us for a rally and press conference at West Hollywood Park on April 30th at 12 noon as we demand the immediate return of Andry JosΓ© HernΓ‘ndez Romero. Andry, a 31-year-old gay asylum seeker from Venezuela, was unjustly deported to a prison in El Salvador after seeking safety in the U.S.
Despite credible threats of persecution in Venezuela due to his sexual orientation and having no criminal record, Andry was denied his scheduled court hearing and deported based on incorrect claims of gang affiliation related to his tattoos. His lawyer, who states the tattoos were connected to Andry's profession as a make-up artist and stylist and his family, has lost contact with him.
Andry's unjust deportation and imprisonment are an affront to the LGBTQ+ community and a grave injustice. We are deeply concerned for his safety in the Salvadoran prison and insist on his immediate return to the U.S. to pursue his asylum claim and defend himself against these baseless allegations.
The U.S. government's actions set a dangerous precedent. If they can seize and silence Andry, denying him due process and legal recourse, then the promise of protection under the law is threatened for all who seek refuge.
Please join your Community, our Coalition leaders, elected officials, and Andry's legal team in demanding his release. Your presence and voice are crucial.
