Maria Louise Roman-Taylorson is a dedicated advocate and leader in social services for the transgender community in Los Angeles, with over 20 years of experience. A proud Puerto Rican Latina woman, she overcame significant challenges to become a powerful activist, role model, and trailblazer.
Maria made history as the first transgender Program Manager for Transgéneros Unidas at Bienestar Human Services, one of the nation's largest HIV prevention programs. Her advocacy has earned her numerous awards, including the Community Hero’s Award, the Harvey Milk Award, and the Women in Leadership Award.
She has served on multiple advisory boards, including the Liberty Hill Foundation, Los Angeles Transgender Advisory Board, and Gilead’s Transgender and HIV Research Community Advisory Board. A former Los Angeles County HIV Commissioner and California Certified Addiction Specialist, she is now the Vice President and Chief Operations Officer for the TransLatin@ Coalition, overseeing critical services for trans individuals.
Beyond advocacy, Maria has made an impact in media, starring in TranTasia, Transparent, VESSELS, and other productions that highlight transgender experiences. Despite her many accomplishments, she remains deeply connected to her roots, tirelessly working to uplift and empower the transgender community.
