At The TransLatin@ Coalition, we are deeply concerned by Governor Newsom’s proposed budget, which freezes Medi-Cal expansion for undocumented adults and slashes funding to critical providers like Planned Parenthood. These are not just numbers on a spreadsheet — these are decisions that put the lives of poor, undocumented, trans, and gender expansive people at risk.

On April 29, 2025, we witnessed a powerful moment in our ongoing fight for justice, dignity, and safety for incarcerated transgender people in California. The Senate Public Safety Committee made it clear that our lives and rights matter — voting down SB 311 (Grove), a harmful and discriminatory bill, and advancing SB 337 (Menjivar), a measure that prioritizes protection and accountability within California’s prison system.

The TransLatin@ Coalition as a founding member of the California Transgender, Gender Diverse, and Intersex Policy Alliance (CTPA), a leading advocate for the specific and often overlooked issues that transgender, gender-nonconforming, and intersex (TGI) individuals face, expresses its vehement condemnation of Governor Newson's lack of support for our TGI community. Despite California's reputation for promoting freedom and equality, and passing many pro “LGBTQ” bills, we demand that the Governor stops leaving the TGI community last.
