TLC Responds to Governor Newsom’s Budget Proposal
We Deserve a California That Cares for All of Us
At The TransLatin@ Coalition, we are deeply concerned by Governor Newsom’s proposed budget, which freezes Medi-Cal expansion for undocumented adults and slashes funding to critical providers like Planned Parenthood. These are not just numbers on a spreadsheet — these are decisions that put the lives of poor, undocumented, trans, and gender expansive people at risk.
“Let’s be clear: our governor is moving further to the right, turning away from the most marginalized communities in this state. In doing so, he is failing the very people who need the most support. This is not fiscal responsibility — it’s a lack of care for the poor.”
- Bamby Salcedo, President & CEO of The TransLatin@ Coalition
Budgets are moral documents, and this one tells us that the health and survival of our communities are not a priority.
But we know a better California is possible — one rooted in justice, equity, and compassion. We call on Governor Newsom and all our leaders to reject these harmful cuts and work with us to build a future where everyone has access to care, safety, and dignity — no matter their immigration status, gender identity, or income level.
